I’m now to the period of marathon training called the taper. When you go from double digit days and 50 mile weeks to a 25 mile week and then a week less than 10 miles just before the event.
One of the most important lessons we can take from The taper is to make time for down time. We each only get one life and one body to live it in. It’s super important to take care of it. I don’t think that I can list all of the benefits of taking time out, but just off the top of my head, rest will:
prevent mental burn out
help learning and memory
help metabolism and weight control
reduce blood pressure
